Statement

It is my desire to let out the images that flood my mind. I’m a visual person which can sometimes be daunting as I’m attracted to all things colourful. Like a magpie I zoom in on anything that’s bright or shines. My mind will wonder and images of combined colours and random objects plague me until I unleash the image on paper or canvas. While I love that this is the way I create, the process can be exhausting leaving me sleepless for days until I’ve made the effort to share my views with the world. Allowing these thoughts and feelings to free-flow is how I work. My translations are colourful and contemporary. I consider my work a celebration of dreams and life.

Bio

Chavah Kinloch is a contemporary mixed media artist. Born in Western Samoa in 1984, raised in Auckland and now living in Southland, life for Chavah has always been diverse and colourful, just the way she likes it. She is inspired by her heritage, emotions, motherhood, beliefs and reflections on life. These ideas are translated onto canvas through texture; symbolism and poetry to create an array of work that can connect personally with each individual. Her paintings are creative and colourful as she chooses colours, subjects and styles that reflect her mood on any given day. While her subjects vary her distinct use of colour is signature in all her pieces. Chavah says “I consider my work a celebration of dreams and life.” Her first experience with exhibiting came when she was seven years old with a painting she created being handpicked to display at a local shopping centre. During her school years her paintings, drawings and sculptures were kept on as displays in libraries and offices. Nowadays her works can be found in collections throughout New Zealand, the U.K., Australia and the U.S.A.
